I''ve used around 42 rpm on mirrors from 10quot; to 20quot; with no problems in grinding/spin polishing for many years. Also there is NO requirement for large HP motors in grinding and polishing. 1/3 AC is fine after pulley reduction.
Then after grinding the mirror face with 220 grit, cleanup thoroughly and flash polish by polishing for 15 minutes. Don''t go onto finer grits until the astigmatism is gone. The second is to identify the saddle orientation, and using a subdiameter lap, locally polish the ends of the saddle.
