East Grinstead St Luke, Stone Quarry. As the foundation stone in the west wall recorded, the church was built in 1954 in a then newly developed district of the town and incorporated a hall and an adjacent clergy house.
The Stone Quarry estate in East Grinstead lost most of it social gathering places of the past and as a result social isolation and antisocial behaviour increased. By bringing back opportunities for social interaction the Crew are striving to break down the social isolation barriers and address the antisocial behaviour through building stronger bonds and rebuilding a more cohesive community.
St Luke''s Church in Holtye Avenue on the Stone Quarry estate was built in 1954 to serve the northeast of the town. The church was demolished around 2014 and flats have now been built at the location. St Barnabas'' Church in Dunnings Road serves the south of the town; the present wooden structure of 1975 replaced an older church built in 1912. [18]
